Dr. Comer's Mentoring Talk, Building an Outstanding Research Career, 2/5
Mentoring Talk by Distinguished Prof. Doug Comer
Wed, Feb 5
2:00 - 3:00pm
LWSN 3102
A successful researcher will share career advice with beginning researchers. The talk includes: how to get started, how to build a reputation, and how to excel. The speaker will reveal some of the secrets that led to his success, including how to choose research topics, when to publish, and how to optimize the impact of your work.
Comer is a Distinguished Professor, who has spent most of his career in academia. However, he has taken leaves of absence from academia to work for a research lab, a startup, and Cisco Systems, where he spent over six years and served as Cisco's inaugural VP of Research. The advice in talk applies broadly to both academic and industrial research careers.
