§ 5: Managing Files and Directories
One of the most important things to know on a computer is where
you have stored things (this is probably true for the rest of your life as
well). You need to be able to see your files and
navigate through your directories. In addition, you need to be able
to create, copy, move and remove files and directories. Finally,
you need to be able to protect your files from unwanted intrusions.
The following sections discuss the Unix commands needed for file
management and some of the more commonly used options.
