Let's tell pine we want to compose a letter:

[return], the 
  highlighted bar should move down to the carbon copy line  
  Cc.  This is used for secondary recipients of your letter, 
  and may include a list of names.  (You may also use a list as primary 
  recipients.)  Why not cc yourself in, press [return], 
  and move on.
 
 The line  Attchmnt  should now be highlighted.  This 
allows you to send files to other people without physically   pasting those 
files into your letter.  This is the useful for sending files with a note 
attached.  We'll attach area.f:

Subject.  Make it 
descriptive since the recipient's mailer often indicates only the sender 
and the subject of the mail; a bad subject may cause your letter to be 
"junked":

Message Text is highlighted.  This is where you 
place your message.  Type "Hello, testing" (or anything you want).  
When you are done with your message, look at the bottom of the screen 
for the  You are 
now prompted at the bottom of the screen to Send option.  The highlighted characters immediately 
to the left of this are "control x".  Enter these by pressing the 
[ctrl] key and the x key simultaneously.  
Send Message?. 
Enter Y, if you are satisfied with the message,   
N if not:
 
 
Your message has been  sent (to you). To receive it, continue on to 
 Receiving Mail with  Pine.
