Windows NT for the Unix User: A 1 Day Workshop

Overview This course is designed to provide an introduction to the Windows NT Workstation. The workshop will introduce the student to the Windows NT user interface, its basic tools and common utilities. The focus is on providing overviews to key features and functions for the student to investigate further on his/her own.

Course Requirements The course assumes that the users are current users of UNIX-based systems. Experience with other Microsoft operating systems is not a prerequisite.

Course Objective At the end of the workshop, each student will be familiar with the key tools used in most day to day uses of Windows NT. They will have been introduced to basic software installation, standard productivity tools and personal system administration issues.

Target Audience Any user who is beginning to use Windows NT as a replacement for, or in addition to, some UNIX variant. The typical students use their computer system to run existing applications. It is assumed that the users are familiar with basic computer concepts and usage.

Lab Requirements Lab availability for 1 full day (times are negotiable). Maximum class size of 15 students (10 preferred). Lecture environment with presentation display driven by Intel-based systems running Windows NT.
