My research focuses on developing intelligent systems that tightly integrate decision making with machine learning and probabilistic reasoning under uncertainty. I have made core contributions across multiple scientific domains, ranging from artificial intelligence, machine learning, renewable energy, materials science, crowdsourcing, citizen science, urban computing, ecology, to behavioral econometrics. In my research, I focus on developing cross-cutting computational methods with applications to a variety of domains, with an emphasis in the new exciting area of computational sustainability and scientific discovery

Dr. Juan Wachs is a Professor and Faculty Scholar in the Industrial Engineering School at Purdue University, Professor of Biomedical Engineering (by courtesy) and an Adjunct Associate Professor of Surgery at IU School of Medicine. He is currently serving at NSF as a Program Director for robotics and AI programs at CISE. He is also the director of the Intelligent Systems and Assistive Technologies (ISAT) Lab at Purdue, and he is affiliated with the Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering.

Dr. Gordillo currently serves as the Dr. Sanford & Thelma Glanz Professor and Chief, Division of Plastic Surgery, Department of Surgery at Indiana University. She is also Medical Director of Wound Services for IU Health and Medical Director of the Wound Care Center at IU Health Methodist Hospital. Dr. Gordillo received her medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Her clinical focus in wound healing specializes in reconstructive surgery for complex burn and wound defects.

Mohamed S. El Masry

Dr. El Masry currently serves as an assistant professor, Division of Plastic Surgery, Department of Surgery at Indiana University and as an investigator at the Indiana Center for Regenerative Medicine and Engineering. Dr. El Masry received his medical degree from School of Medicine, Zagazig University, where he also completed his general surgery residency and plastic surgery training. He obtained his doctoral degree in Plastic Surgery from School of Medicine/Zagazig University & The Ohio State University via a conjoint governmental sponsored mission.

Dr. Gnyawali currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He received his doctoral degree in Biophysics from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma. Dr. Gnyawali’s research focus is on the application of cutting-edge-imaging technologies in regenerative medicine, strokes, and wound healing.
