CS Faculty Earn Promotions in 2007

Congratulations to Professors Suresh Jagannathan, Voicu Popescu, and Dongyan Xu! Professor Jagannathan has earned a promotion to the rank of Professor, and Professors Popescu and Xu have earned tenure and promotion to the rank of Associate Professor. These positions became effective on July 1, 2007.
Professor Jagannathan started at Purdue in 2002. Prior to Purdue, he was a senior research scientist at the NEC Research Institute, in Princeton, New Jersey. He received his PhD and MS in electrical engineering and computer science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He earned his BS from State University of New York, Stony Brook. His research interests are in the semantics and implementation of high-level programming languages. He also has an active interest in the specification and implementation of concurrent and distributed systems.
Professor Voicu Popescu came to Purdue in 2001 after he earned his PhD and MS in computer science from the University of North Carolina. He received his BS from the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania. His research interest is computer graphics, focusing on image-based modeling and rendering and graphics architectures. His current work concentrates on large-scale automated modeling, interactive view dependent rendering, and developing applications such as effective distance learning and high-fidelity visualization of simulation results.
Professor Dongyan Xu started at Purdue in 2001 after receiving his PhD in computer science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He earned his BS in computer science from Zhongshan University, China. Professor Xu's current research focus is the development of virtualization technologies for distributed computing, malware investigation and defense, and cyberinfrastructure computing. He has also contributed to the area of peer-to-peer media streaming and distribution.
