Prof. and Mrs. Gautschi Translate Euler's Biography

02-05-2007

E.A. Fellmann's authoritative (though formula-free) biography of Leonhard Euler is now available in English, thanks to a translation (from German) by Erika and Walter Gautschi. It appeared in 2007 with Birkhauser Verlag, Basel, as a tribute to Euler's 300th birthday.

The book is written for a broad audience interested in the history of science. It is based in part on unpublished sources and comes from current research on Euler.

Leonhard Euler was a great scholar and the most productive mathematician in history. Euler's fame is comparable to that of Galilei, Newton, and Einstein.
