Sameh Conference Brings Together Eclectic Group of Top Researchers

10-12-2010

This past October, a conference on high performance scientific computing was held in honor of Ahmed Sameh on the occasion of his 70th birthday. The conference focused on high performance scientific computing, with an emphasis on architectures, algorithms, and applications. The conference featured talks by leading researchers in high performance scientific computing. The topics of these talks ranged from a discussion on Ahmed Sameh's contributions to large-scale eigenvalue problems, to tiling in algorithms and programming languages.

PhD student Eric Cox said, "the conference brought together an eclectic group of top researchers in the field of high performance scientific computing. All of which Ahmed had an interaction with at one point during his career."

The conference was well attended with over 60 registered attendees, and in celebration of Ahmed Sameh's birthday, a banquet was held at the Holiday Inn City Center. Some memorable moments from the banquet included dinner speeches by several of Ahmed Sameh's colleges, and a birthday cake.
