Writer(s): Staff Reports

Computer Science graduate student, Yudong Cao, received the prestigious 2016 Chorafas Award in Informatics and Computer Science for his work on quantum computation. Yudong’s research focuses on improving and optimizing the resource needed for simulating quantum many-body interactions, a task which is usually beyond classical computing paradigms. Quantum computation is an emerging research area, thus this award is a special highlight of Purdue’s presence in the field.

The Dimitris N. Chorafas Foundation awards scientific prizes for outstanding work in selected fields in the engineering sciences, medicine and the natural sciences. It rewards research characterized by its high potential for practical application and by the special significance attached to its aftermath.  Every year, partner universities in Europe, North America, and Asia evaluate the research work of their graduating doctoral students and nominate top theses for the Chorafas Award.
