Invitation to Participate in Extended Reality (XR) User Study: Instructor Monitoring of Student Engagement Using Extended Reality

Dear Students,

We are conducting a user study to investigate an instructor’s awareness of students in Virtual and Mixed Reality classroom environments.

If you choose to participate, you will wear an XR headset that will either show (1) a virtual lecture room populated with virtual students, i.e., student avatars, or (2) a real-world lecture room populated with student avatars and deliver a short mock lesson in a classroom with virtual students. You will also complete a brief cognitive task and answer questionnaires about your experience. The entire session will take approximately 60 minutes, and you will receive $30 in compensation for your time.

Inclusion/exclusion criteria
•Participants must be 18 years or older.
•Participants should not be color blind.
•Participants should have normal or corrected-to-normal vision.
•Participants should be able to stand, talk, and use both hands.
