SMU Recruiting Students for NSF REU on Advancing Data Science in the Public Interest

Interested in developing data skills to help address real challenges facing communities? This summer, the NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Advancing Data Science in the Public Interest at SMU offers students the opportunity to strengthen data science skills while working on research projects with real societal impact.

This paid,  summer research program held on SMU’s campus in Dallas, Texas, runs from June 1 through July 24, 2026, and is funded by the National Science Foundation (Award #2447670). Participants will engage in faculty-led research, develop research and coding skills, and take part in workshops, field trips, and cohort-based activities designed to support academic and professional growth.

To be eligible, you must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, have finished your second or third year of college, and be majoring in math, computer science, or a related field. The best participant will be someone with a strong academic record who is interested in how social science is used.
