Research Opportunities in Computational Biology at Rosetta Commons

I am excited to share two, NSF funded,  paid research opportunities available for undergraduate students and postbacs in 2025:

Rosetta Commons REU: A Cyberlinked Program in Computational Biomolecular Structure & Design
This geographically distributed REU program offers students the chance to participate in research using the Rosetta Commons software. This software includes algorithms for computational modeling and protein structure analysis, driving significant advancements in computational biology, including protein design, enzyme design, ligand docking, and structure prediction.

Students will gain hands-on experience with PyRosetta, machine learning, and collaborative coding environments. Research will focus on molecular modeling and design, with opportunities to develop new algorithms and contribute to scientific discovery. The program provides a $6,000 stipend, along with housing, food allowances, and travel accommodations.

RaMP: Post-Baccalaureate Training Program in Biomolecular Structure Prediction and Design
The Rosetta Commons Research and Mentoring for Postbaccalaureates (RaMP) is a one-year fellowship aimed at students from underrepresented groups in STEM, first-generation college students, and those from under-resourced institutions. The program provides valuable research experience for students aiming to enter PhD programs.

Trainees will engage in research using Rosetta Commons software and participate in a comprehensive training bootcamp, professional development opportunities, mentoring, and a supportive research community. This program offers a salary, health benefits, and funding for conference travel.

Research projects will focus on these scientific areas:

  • Protein design
  • Drug discovery
  • Code development
  • Machine learning
  • RNA design
  • Crowd-sourced citizen science

Applications open on November 1, 2024.
