Incubator Development
The
goal of this project is to complete the formation of the ITI and establish
ongoing consortium development processes. This includes implementing administrative
processes for the ongoing work. Ongoing and cooperative processes among
consortium members include the coalescence of collaborating projects to
produce a demonstration prototype, identification of new funding priorities,
identification of new incubator project priorities, identification of new
partners, and self evaluation.
Tasks
ITI
members work collaboratively on the incubation processes involved
in researching, prototyping, and evaluating new telemedicine technologies.
This ongoing process will feed in a cyclic manner the ITI Return on Investment
(ROI) processes involved in technology transfer, commercialization, marketing,
and new idea and funding generation. The results of the ROI processes will
then cycle back into the incubation processes where the cycle can continue.
Development
of Demonstration Prototypes: Rresearch projects will be identified which
has high potential for success given the capabilities and resources of
consortium members.
-
Commercialization:
This process will be to transform the results of the prototypes
into marketable assets. The Entrepreneurial and Technology Transfer Initiatives
of the Krannert Graduate School of Management will coordinate this effort.
-
Marketing:
Products and services that evolve out of technology transfer phase of
projects will be sent to market. Consortium members in the Krannert Graduate
School of Management will coordinate this effort. The ITI will be open
to all viable and appropriate methods, including: direct marketing, and
two-way communication with the target sectors. Two major options for commercializing
academic ITI developments are: licensing developments to Indiana business
enterprises which then perform the marketing, sales, licensing, insuring,
and distribution to the end user; and, direct marketing.
-
New
Idea Generation & Ongoing Research: The goal process is to continuously
identify new telemedicine problems and opportunities, and to generate solutions
through scholarship and creative activities in both fundamental and applied
fields.
-
External
Funding: All appropriate sources of funding for telemedicine research will
be pursued by the consortium in an ongoing process. The goals here are
to obtain additional support for both existing work and new project ideas
generated within the ITI. Sources may be public or private, research-oriented
or commercial. Sources already identified include the National Institutes
of Health, National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Agriculture,
and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
