CS 2005 Teacher's Workshop
06-07-2005
Mathematics and Computer teachers of grades 6-12 are invited to attend the inaugural Linking Mathematics and Computer Science Workshop for teachers. This workshop is sponsored by the Purdue University College of Science K-12 Outreach Program, Purdue Department of Computer Science, and Purdue Department of Mathematics.
Teachers interested in learning how computer science and mathematical concepts relate and how to use computers to enrich current classroom content are encouraged to attend this 3-day workshop at no cost to teachers. It will be held July 27-29, 2005 on the Purdue University campus in West Lafayette, Indiana . The daily sessions will run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm with lunch provided each day for participants.
The Linking Mathematics and Computer Science Workshop will give teachers the opportunity to work with other teachers. In teams they will work towards a similar desire to create fun, exciting ways to include technology and principles of computer science in their teaching strategies.
Teachers will finish this workshop with new skills and real life applications of computer science by becoming familiar with programming concepts using JAVA and defining algorithms in math and how they are used in computer science. The workshop will also define where computers fit in with secondary school curriculum and how teachers can enhance curriculum.
