Teachers Invited to Workshop Linking Mathematics and Computer Science
05-19-2008
Mathematics and Computer teachers of grades 9-12 are invited to attend the Purdue Linking Mathematics and Computer Science Workshop for teachers. There is no cost to attend, and attendees will learn to make mathematics more engaging, exciting and relevant to the their students' futures. The Linking Workshop is sponsored by the Purdue University College of Science K-12 Outreach Program, Purdue Department of Computer Science, and Purdue Department of Mathematics, and Motorola Foundation.
Teachers interested in learning how computer science and mathematical concepts relate and how to use computers to enrich current classroom content are encouraged to attend this 3-day workshop. It will be held July 14-17, 2008 in the state-of-the-art Lawson Computer Science Building at Purdue University, West Lafayette. The daily sessions will run from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm with all meals provided each day for participants.
The Linking Mathematics and Computer Science Workshop will give teachers the opportunity to work with other teachers. In teams they will work to conquer a similar desire to create fun, exciting ways to include technology and principles of computer science in their teaching strategies. The workshop can also earn attendees 15 Certification Renewal Units (CRU's) toward license renewal.
They will also gain valuable knowledge in topics such as algorithms, binary numbers, cryptography, logic circuits, and recursion. By becoming familiar with computer science concepts and how they relate to mathematics, teachers can integrate what they have learned in their secondary school curriculum.
