Gunn Receives Honorary PhD

Purdue University will award Dr. Moira Gunn an honorary PhD in science on May 15, 2009. This honor will be presented to Gunn during the spring commencement ceremony in Elliott Hall of Music.

Gunn is an alumna of Purdue Computer Science (MS, 1972) and the first female PhD recipient in Purdue Mechanical Engineering (1974). She is the host of Public Radio programs "Tech Nation" and "Bio Tech Nation" which she founded in 1993. Gunn previously worked as a NASA scientist and engineer. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and serving her second term on the College of Science Dean's Leadership Council. In 2006 Gunn was awarded the College of Science Dean's Ovation Award and served as moderator for the opening panel on technology at the Sundance Film Festival. She is also a member of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. Gunn was a key person in the creation of the Science Laureates Program at Purdue University.
