The 2012 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) has ranked Purdue University’s Department of Computer Science 20th out of computer science programs at universities worldwide. The ranking is determined by weighing specific indicators, such as alumni success, faculty awards, research citations, and publishing productivity.

Stanford University tops the 2012 AWRU Computer Science ranking. Other Indiana institutions to share the list with Purdue Computer Science are the University of Notre Dame (tied for 51-75) and Indiana University Bloomington (tied for 151-200).

Overall, Purdue University - West Lafayette ranked 56th in the ARWU’s 2012 list of the 500 top universities (up from 61st in 2011.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) is conducted by researchers at the Center for World-Class Universities of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (CWCU).
