Week 6 - Expansion: Leadership and Roles in Collaboration

Teamwork fuels shared success.

Objective: Help students understand that effective teamwork relies on everyone contributing their strengths, and leaders are there to support and elevate the team rather than take control.

Class Discussion: What Makes a Good Leader?

  • Explore what leadership means in a collaborative context.
    • Discuss:
      • “Is a leader always the person in charge?”
      • “What do good leaders do to help their teams?”
  • Role-Playing Team Roles:
    • Introduce common team roles:
      • Facilitator: Keeps the team on task.
      • Recorder: Takes notes or tracks progress.
      • Encourager: Supports and motivates teammates.
      • Idea Generator: Thinks creatively to solve problems.
  • Activity: Assign these roles in a mini-group project to help students see the value of each role in action.
Reflection: My Role in a Team
  • Journaling Prompt:
    • “What role do I naturally take on in a group, and how can I strengthen my skills in that role?”
    • “What can I do to help others feel included in teamwork?”

Mindset Mantra:

“Great leaders help their team shine.”
