Our statement of support for the Asian and Asian American Community
March 30, 2021
We are reaching out to our community within the Department of Computer Science to share our disgust towards the abhorrent rise of anti-Asian violence, discrimination and public rhetoric, evidenced by the murders in Atlanta in March, and sadly familiar to members of the Asian community.
While racism and discrimination against individuals of Asian heritage is by no means new, over the past year we have witnessed an escalation in bigotry and xenophobia directed at Asians, Asian Americans, and Pacific Islanders.
In the department, we condemn all discriminative actions perpetrated against these members of our community. Individuals of Asian descent are valued and important members of the Purdue Computer Science community and we offer our unequivocal support to you in these difficult times. We are committed to working every day to make the department a safe and welcoming community.
Throughout Purdue there are resources available: through our ombudsperson, Asian American and Asian Resource and Cultural Center (AAARCC), Counseling and Psychological Services, and the University’s system for reporting hate and bias.
